Zeballos Firefighters to knock on doors for Tsunami exercise

Firefighters in Zeballos will be out knocking on doors as part of a Tsunami exercise.

On social media, the Strathcona Regional District says the Zeballos Volunteer fire department will be going door-to-door as part of an evacuation exercise in Ehatis and Zeballos, to understand how many homes they could knock on in an hour in the event of a tsunami.

They say firefighters will be knocking on doors to simulate what would happen if a tsunami was caused by an earthquake in Alaska. Not all homes may receive a visit and the firefighters will hold a debriefing following the exercise.

If you don’t want your door knocked on, call Manager of Emergency Services Shaun Koopman at 250-830-6702 or email him at [email protected] to be put on a DO NOT VISIT list.

Exercise will start this Wednesday at 7:10 p.m.
