For the next few nights, you can escape the cold by going to the Warming Centre in Campbell River.
On Friday, the city announced they will open the Centre for five nights because of both the overnight lows and the current special weather statement. The centre ran from midnight on Friday to 7:00 a.m. on Saturday.
The statement from Environment Canada says a low-pressure system is bringing snow flurries across Vancouver Island, with 2 to 4 centimeters of snow expected for Saturday morning.
The city says the centre is open for short-term stays, with hot drinks, snacks, and seating available. No beds will be provided.
You can bring leashed pets and belongings such as bikes and carts.
The Centre will run in the Campbell River Community Centre from 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, and from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday.
