CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C- The first ground spraying treatment to get rid of invasive gypsy moths begins on Tuesday next week.
The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development will be spraying to eradicate the moths from 45 hectares of land in Campbell River.
Three separate sets of treatments will be required.
Spraying will be carried out by crews using ground spray equipment. They will start around 8 a.m. and will be completed by 6 p.m. every day.
The ministry said that poor weather may cause delays in the process, but each treatment should only take one day to apply.
They’re aimed at completing the spray by mid-June.  Â
Poor weather or wind may cause treatments to be postponed without advance notice.
The Province will issue bulletins 24 hours before each treatment, and provide up-to-date information at 1 866 917-5999 and online at: www.gov.bc.ca/gypsymoth Â
The telephone line will be staffed during business hours, and will provide up-to-date spray schedules and recorded information, 24 hours a day. Social media will be used to update the public on current spray operations. Follow #Gypsymoth on Twitter for these updates.
