A Campbell River Search and Rescue member is being recognized for his work by receiving a national award.
Dylan Baker has received the Emergency Management Exemplary Service Award, an award given to those who have achieved excellence, showcased exceptional service and achievement in emergency management across Canada.
The Strathcona Regional District says Baker is being recognized because of the SAR Command Assist, a tool used to meet the time-essential needs of search and rescue responders.
“One of the many features of this software is the ability to link multiple computers together, even while offline, which is crucial when SAR teams are operating in remote areas,” said the district.
“Dylan’s dedication and generosity to the SAR field was demonstrated with him sharing this tool on a national and global scale at no charge.”
They say because of his work spreading the tool to others, search and rescue teams as far as North Carolina and Portugal use the tool.
Along with Baker, 128 other people and groups also got the award for their work.
