The Village of Tahsis looks to expand their marine transportation infrastructure with a new marina.
The Village says the marina would have berths for 10 to 12 ships and dedicated spaces for essential services such as the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation, RCMP, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
The goal of the marina is to support tourism growth, bring business startups, and improve capacity for emergency response in Nootka Sound.
A total of $1.3 million will be invested in the project, with $200,000 of the money coming from Island Coastal Economic Trust.
The trust says this project comes as part of the Tahsis Marine Gateway project, with the marina in the project’s second phase.
They add once the project finishes, they expect businesses like Shorebird Expeditions Water Taxi and Coal Creek Roasters and Café to expand.
