It’s official, the movie theatre in Campbell River will be closing for good after Christmas.
Landmark Cinemas Campbell River said in a statement on social media Tuesday that the last day of operations will be on January 5, 2025.
The theatre at Merecroft Village has been a fixture of the community since it opened in 1994, and was the last remaining commercial movie theatre in Campbell River after the downtown Galaxy theatre closed in 2009.
The Canadian Landmark chain was purchased by Belgium-based multinational Kinepolis in 2017. The chain is focused on providing theatre-goers with a premium experience and has upgraded some theatres in Canada but closed others deemed too old to upgrade.
