New apartment proposed on Dogwood near old Royal Coachman site

Plans for a new apartment building on Dogwood Street south of 2nd Avenue were moved forward this week by the city.

Council gave the first three readings to proposed zoning changes for 138 Dogwood Street on Thursday.

The developer owns the Duke’s Liquor Store on the adjacent property, and wants a residential property sandwiched between commercial zones changed to match. The developer plans to build a four-storey apartment building with ground-floor commercial space, where they will relocate the liquor store.

The apartment proposal calls for 15 two-bedroom units with residential parking at the rear. Several residents behind the site raised concerns about their alley access and backyard privacy.

Council will review the zoning proposal again at a future meeting.
