The city is getting ready for construction of a new pool and ice arenas to start later this year.
Blueprints for the new Strathcona Gardens Complex show the parking lot at the corner of Dogwood and Pinecrest will be the site of the new aquatic centre. Starting the project there will allow the existing pool to stay open during construction.
The city needs to rezone the site to reduce setbacks, and allow for construction to begin. Council will discuss the project and the rezoning requirement at its regular meeting tonight.
The Strathcona Gardens rebuild project is led by the Strathcona Regional District, and will cost approximately $73 million. The cost will be shared by all communities in the district.
