Hundreds of vulnerable women have received early Christmas gifts through the Shoebox project, thanks to local generousity.
More than 530 shoeboxes packed with gifts were delivered to shelters and outreach agencies in Campbell River and Port Hardy late last week. Coordinator Alison Skrepneck says local Shoebox Project volunteers haven’t seen such an outpouring of generousity since before the pandemic.
The shoeboxes are filled with personal care and luxury items, along with a gift card to a local grocery or drug store. Women who received the gifts say it’s not about the items, but knowing that people in the community care.
Skrepneck says the project wouldn’t be possible without the support from local businesses, schools, and individuals who donated items and cash to help put the boxes together.
