Rezoning for a townhouse development in Quinsam Heights has been given the go-ahead
Campbell River city council approved the rezoning at 470 Walworth Road Thursday night.
It will allow for higher density homes on the northern part of the six acre lot on the northwest corner of Walworth and Willis Avenue.
Property owners Marc and Loreen Johnson are planning for seven lots with four townhouse units on each lot for a total of 28 dwellings.
The southern half of the lot, adjacent to Willis Road, will remain low density for now.
As part of the plan, the developer has to build a road to city standards to service the subdivision as well as an irrigated park (three-tenths of an acre). The conditions are known as a restrictive covenant.
In a report to council, city staff say the development will address its so-called “missing middle” housing type in Campbell River.
There’s no timeline for construction.
