CAMPBELL RIVER, BC – Speed limits on Highway 19A have seen some changes recently.
Residents may have noticed the stretch of 19A from 1st Avenue to Rockland Road has new posted speed limits.
Currently, the limit is 30km/h, down from the previous 50km/h.
But according to the city’s communications advisor Julie Douglas, the most recent change in the speed limit is due to the ongoing waterfront work.
“The speed limit reduction is temporary, through the full construction zone, for everyone’s safety during the construction work along the highway,” Douglas wrote in a statement.
She added that there will be more signage to clarify the limit change is temporary and construction-related.
“We thank drivers for slowing down as they approach the work area and for following the posted limit.”
Before going down to 50km/h, the stretch from 1st Avenue to Rockland Road was 60km/h. The city previously issued a statement regarding the change, saying the limit was reduced to match the north and south portions of this part of the route.
The speed reduction was meant to match Alder St and Dogwood St, which are arterial corridors to Highway 19A.
