CAMPBELL RIVER, BC – A local mother is asking for her son’s bike back.
Rhonda Bobocel said her son gave her a call from school after classes let out, telling her he couldn’t get home because someone had taken his bike.
Her son Julian’s bike wasn’t at the rack at the end of the day, but his brother’s was.
According to Rhonda, staff members tried looking for it. She said they tried looking for it in the wooded area behind Pinecrest Elementary, but were unable to locate it.
Rhonda reported the incident to the police, then she called pawn shops in town to see if it had been pawned off.
“I don’t understand how something like that could happen at an elementary school,” she said.
She said the bike must have been taken a little after noontime on Wednesday.
“I was at the school around noon to give my son his birthday invitations to hand them out to his friends… his birthday is this Friday.”
“I saw the bike at the bike rack, right beside his brother’s. And then I got the call after school, and it was gone. I myself don’t have a vehicle right now, so my kid actually relies on using his bike to get to and from friends’, to and from school,” she said.
“This is just a big blow to us.”
The bike is a small Giant Revel mountain bike with bright blue and green stripes all over the body, a black seat and black handlebars. The bike has “GIANT” in black decals on the body as well. According to Rhonda, Julian received the bike last year as a birthday present from his grandmother.
“He doesn’t understand what’s going on. He just said “maybe someone else needed it”. I told him, that still doesn’t give them the right to just take it from you because you need it too.”
Anyone who may see the bicycle is asked to contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
