CAMPBELL RIVER, BC – Campbell River has more than one beauty hoping to be Maxim’s 2019 cover girl.
Kyla May, a Campbell River model and recovery support worker, is also in the running to be the magazine’s cover girl. May is currently first out of 16 candidates.
May got involved in the competition after she received a message on Instagram about it. She didn’t think she’d climb up to first place, but seeing the support from the community has been surreal for her.
“It feels good. It’s really fun. I love modelling, and it’s my passion. It’s just fun,” May said.
May frequently travels to Victoria and Vancouver for modelling work, shooting for magazines and calendars with proceeds going to local charities and organizations. In Campbell River, she’s done shoots for Ideal Café and La Tee Da, with the proceeds going to the Campbell River Hospice Society and the Campbell River and North Island Transition Society.
Most recently, she sold the rights to some of her photos to Paramount Pictures. The pictures will be used for the Vancouver Island-filmed Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
She said that women supporting women is very important, which is why she does what she does.
“It’s important to feel good in your own skin, and show that beauty does come from the inside out.”
“If I win, and help some women along the way, that’s what it’s about.”
Voting for this period ends on May 16th. To vote for May, visit her voting page.
