CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C – A local First Nation artist is heading to Victoria to show off his carvings.
The 2018 First Nation Cultural Art Showcase, presented by TimberWest at the Royal BC Museum, has announced the artists selected for the event – including one from the Wei Wai Kum First Nation.
Brothers Dave and Johnathan Jacobson of Tsaxis First Nation in Fort Rupert, Toni Frank of Shishalh First Nation in Sechelt, and the Good Family from Snuneymux First Nation in Nanaimo and Tom Hunt Jr. of Wei-Wai-Kum First Nation in Campbell River, will all be featured in the event.

Tom Hunt Jr. said he sees the event with the Royal BC Museum as more than just an art show.
“I look at going to Victoria as a way of giving back, to continue our family history. My family members looked after working with the museum, restoration of old totem poles – a legacy was left there.”
“When you look at the rich culture of the museum itself, what they left there for young guys like me. It’s up to us to help look after that also,” said Hunt Jr.
“I’m very grateful for my opportunity, I’m happy to be a part of not only this art show, but to support future art shows, and carry on a relationship with TimberWest.”
Artists will be engaging the public in an “immersive art experience”, starting July 30th, located at the outdoor upper plaza of the Royal BC Museum., They will also showcase their work at a two-week art show event in September. To learn more about the event, visit https://www.timberwest.com/2018/07/
