Christmas Market raises thousands for forestry families

A Christmas Market in Campbell River was transformed into a fundraiser event supporting struggling forestry families.

All proceeds from the Christmas Market, held this past Saturday at Eagles Hall on 14th Ave., are going to the Loonies for Loggers group.

The group was created to help those on Vancouver Island affected by the strike.

Katrina Reedel, market organizer, says many people came out to show their support with over $6,500 in cash, cheques and gift cards collected.

“It was a very good turn-out,” Reddel says. “Lots of people came out, lots of people found some way to donate.”

Over half of the back of a pick-up truck was filled with goods, non-perishable food items, and toys for children.

The hall took a decreased rate with most vendor fees going towards donations.

The Christmas Market will be back in 2020 as it has been turned into an annual event, helping those who need an extra hand during the holiday season.

Reedel would like to give a special thank-you to Wendy Newman, Janis Major and Colette Papove for all their help organizing the market.
