City looking to improve its signs

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.- The city is looking to improve its sign bylaw.

Staff is holding an open house event on Tuesday, March 6th to hear residential feedback about upcoming changes. Bylaw updates will incorporate best practices outlined in the city’s Sustainable Official Community Plan and some guidelines that were developed as a result of the Refresh Downtown initiative.

“Along with providing important information, signs help establish the look and feel of the community. If you’re interested in helping ensure the bylaw is easy to interpret and meets local needs across our diverse commercial areas, come out and tell us what you think,” said Kevin Brooks, the city’s development services manager, in a release.

An incentive program will be launched following the bylaw update, with funding for new signs. This is similar to the downtown facade improvement program.

“Stay tuned for an opportunity to apply for grant funding to help cover the cost of new and improved signs,” said Brooks.

Staff will provide a handbook describing what types of signs are eligible for funding. The open house event is on Tuesday, March 6th from 5 to 7:00 p.m. at the Maritime Heritage Centre.

Residents who can’t attend can submit their feedback by contacting Brooks at (250) 286-5748 or via email at [email protected].
